Learning in Action Days and the Republic of Ireland Curriculum

Our Learning in Action Days give young people across Ireland the chance to see construction in action — stepping onto live projects, meeting industry role models, and experiencing how classroom learning connects to the real world. In the Republic of Ireland, these experiences directly complement the Curriculum Frameworks at both Junior and Senior Cycle, supporting schools to deliver broad, balanced, and future-focused learning.

Supporting the 24 Statements of Learning (Junior Cycle)

Our site visits provide authentic opportunities to meet many of the Statements of Learning, including:

  • SOL 15: The student recognises the potential influences of
    science and technology on society.
  • SOL 16: The student describes, illustrates, interprets,
    predicts, and explains patterns and relationships.
  • SOL 18: The student observes and evaluates empirical
    events and processes using qualitative and quantitative
    approaches.
  • SOL 23: The student brings an idea from conception to
    realisation.
  • SOL 24: The student uses technology and digital media tools
    to learn, communicate, and work collaboratively.

Embedding Key Skills (Junior & Senior Cycle)

Learning in Action Days naturally develop the 8 Key Skills across cycles:

  • Being Literate & Being Numerate – Applying maths,
    measurement, and communication in practical contexts.
  • Managing Myself – Building resilience and confidence in a
    new environment.
  • Working with Others – Collaborating on team challenges
    and problem-solving.
  • Managing Information & Thinking – Exploring real data,
    processes, and decision-making.
  • Being Creative – Seeing design, innovation, and sustainability
    practices in action.
  • Staying Well – Understanding health, safety, and wellbeing
    in the workplace.
  • Communicating – Engaging with industry professionals,
    asking questions, and sharing reflections.

At Senior Cycle, our programmes support Learning Outcomes in areas such as:

  • STEM Subjects – Engineering, Applied Maths, Physics, and Design.
  • Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE) – Workplace wellbeing, resilience, and confidence.
  • Transition Year – Providing meaningful work-related experiences and exposure to career pathways.
  • Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) – Demonstrating enterprise, employability, and teamwork skills.

Supporting Career Guidance and Employability

Learning in Action Days also align with the National Skills Strategy and the focus on career guidance and work-related learning by:

  • Giving pupils real insight into vocational, apprenticeship, and professional career pathways.
  • Linking education to labour market needs, particularly in construction, engineering, and the built environment.
  • Providing equitable access to relatable role models, raising aspirations, and supporting social mobility.
